Eulogy by Evelyn's niece, Nancy MacNaughton:
On March 22, our beloved Evelyn was called to join her loved ones that are waiting. Surely Our Lord will be at the gates of heaven to receive her as she greets her adoring husband Clem, her only sister Ethel Mac Naughton and her brother in law Ethel’s husband, Donald MacNaughton.
My first remembrance of my precious Aunt Evie are of her feeding me in my highchair. She figured a way to get me to eat by asking “what would the kitty say” and making me laugh as I said in my baby voice “Meow”.
As well as a job at Holden Stones Dept Store, Evie had a short career as a governess which explains why I was I taught the ways of an elegant woman. I learned the finer things i.e. knitting, crochet, sewing reading and cooking etc. Between Evie and my mother Ethel I learned the graces of life. Remember when we all sent cards as greetings and thank you’s ?. “GRACE”! thank you Aunt Evie.
We boated on Lake Pontusic, Uncle Clem at the helm, Aunt Evie always ready with food, treats, towels, a change of clothes and her delight in life. An adventurous woman always ready to jump in their RV and travel where their dreams took them. They learned square dancing while living briefly in Kentucky. They eventually settled in Stone Ridge NY after Clem (a brilliant man) retired from his engineering career at GE and where he became a professor at SUNY, teaching young adults.
Adventurers all the way.
Sadly after an illness Clem left us. However not before he had planned every care and need Evelyn could want. She has been protected and lovingly taken care of by his former nurse Maria Cassara. Maria has been by her side since his departure. She has taken care of her as she would her own mother. After Stone Ridge they moved to a family home in Newburgh, NY. With Maria a whole new family, everything Italian of course including Italian food. Through the age of cell phones and Maria, a continuous communication was generated from east to west. That would be (me) Nancy out here in California. And always in each other’s lives and close to each other’s hearts beloved Florence, Clems neice and their dearest friends Pete and Jerry.
So we bid farewell to our Evelyn G. Tiska, nee. Evelyn Grace Germaine. Beloved wife of Clement Tiska.
