Ronald Arthur Joy, of the Town of Newburgh, a retired technician at IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY entered into rest Monday, January 28, 2013 at Wingate of Beacon, NY. He was 80.
The son of the late Arthur and Genevieve McCarry Joy, he was born September 30, 1932 in Cornwall, NY.
Ron was a life member of the Dan Leghorn Fire Co. #1 and past president of the Benevolent Association, life member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree, Monsignor Henry O' Carroll Chapter 444, Holy Name Society of St. Patrick's Church, member Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, IBM Quarter Century Club and a member of Chelsea Sportsmen Association. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, sportsman and enjoyed taking walks in the woods. Ron wanted to be remembered as a proud Irishman. After retirement, Ron worked at the Storm King Art Center.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Carole Jean Linfante Joy at home, sons; Ron Joy and his wife Maria of New City, Kevin Joy of Newburgh, James Joy and his wife Mary Ann of Newburgh, daughter; Carla Karnavezos and husband Nick of New Windsor, brother; Robert Joy and his wife Frances of Middletown, grandchildren; Leslie Joy, Christine Joy, Joseph Joy, Nickolas Karnavezos, Andonia Karnavezos, and Riley Marie Joy, godchild; Diane Joy-Murray, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter; Leslie Anne Joy and a sister Arlene Hughes.
Visitation for family and friends will take place Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 4 -8 p.m. at White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd.,(Rte 32), Newburgh.
Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m., Friday, February 1, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel, Rte. 52, (Orange Lake), Newburgh. Burial will follow the mass in Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.
