John "Jack" Danek, 80 years old of Newburgh, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22nd at home.
Jack served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was a talented carpenter who was one of the founding partners of DSM Home Improvement for more than 20 years. Many people have enjoyed the products of his meticulous handiwork over the years. Jack was very active in his community, volunteering for Meals on Wheels along with being dedicated to the First Congregational Church of Newburgh. Family and friends will miss his sense of humor, smiling face, and quick wit. We were fortunate to be able to witness his strength and perseverance during this past year. They loved camping and made many lasting friendships while traveling through all 49 continental states.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 56 years, Joan Nugent Danek, son, Jay (Pam) Danek, and daughter, Joy (Tom) Licata. He also leaves behind grandchildren whom he loved dearly and enjoyed being with; Jason (Jackie), Colin (Olivia), Mike, and Shawn Danek; Christin, Thomas, and Justin Licata. He was predeceased by his parents, Ada and Frank Danek and his beloved son, Jimmy.
Visitation for family and friends will take place, Friday, October 25, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m. at White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd. (Rte 32), Newburgh.
Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the First Congregational Church, 44 Liberty Street, (Washington Heights), Newburgh.
Cremation to follow at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
