Reverend George A. Palmer, of the Town of Newburgh, the retired pastor for the First Congregational Church in Newburgh entered into rest Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Elant Nursing Home in Newburgh. He was 83.
The son of the late William and Gladys Kent Palmer, George was born July 16, 1931 in Newburgh.
George retired from Shoprite and then went on to minister at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Washingtonville and the Beacon Reformed Church in Beacon.
Survivors include beloved wife, Orvetta Parks Palmer; daughter, Alice Looney and husband, Glenn of the Town of Newburgh, brother, Richard Palmer, sister, Ruth Cranmore both of Alabama, grandchildren; Jennipher, Christina and James Looney, great grandson, Christian Landrum and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his sisters; Betty Deines and Adeline Phillips.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the First Congregational Church, 44 Liberty Street, (Washington Heights) Newburgh. Funeral service will commence following the visitation. Pastor Glenn Looney will officiate. Burial to follow in Gardnertown Cemetery, Union Ave., Newburgh, NY.
