Manuel Rios of Plattekill, a retired carpenter entered into rest Friday, May 1, 2015 surrounded by his family at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was 87.
The son of the late Manuel Rios Lopez and Antonia Germade Carro, Manuel was born June 2, 1927 in La Coruña, Spain.
Manuel and his mother left Spain in 1947 to join his father in NYC. He was inducted into the US Army in 1949 and served until 1952 in Korea. He was a union member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. In 1953 he married Miren Sanz at Our Lady of Angels Church in Brooklyn. In 1963 he built a house in Plattekill and lived there the rest of his life.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Miren (Maryann) Rios at home, children; Daniel Rios and wife, Kathleen of Tannersville, Pa, Ramon Rios and wife, Laura of Englewood, Florida, Anita Decker and husband, John of Pine Bush, NY and Marina Frees and husband, Ed of Jacksonville, Florida, brother, Luis Rios of Brooklyn, brother-in-law, Edward Sanz and wife, Cheryl; grandchildren: Jeffrey Rios and wife, Lauren, Amy Janos and husband, Brian, Jordan Frees, Elianna Decker, Madison Rios and Isabella Rios, great grandson, Sebastian Rios, as well as many nieces and nephews.
There will be no public visitation. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
A Memorial Mass will be offered, 10 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1250 State, Route 32, Plattekill, NY. Father Kevin Malik will officiate.
