Jean E. Pritchard died on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at her home in Newburgh, New York. Jean was born to Virgil Forrence and Helen Rogers in Keeseville, New York on December 12, 1920.
At age 19, she came to Newburgh to attend the St. Luke's School of Nursing and was a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital for almost 40 years. She then went on to become a nurse at the John's Home (a home for the elderly) before retiring. Jean was a member of Union Presbyterian Church.
She met our father, Marvin E. Pritchard who was stationed at Stewart Air Force Base on a blind date in early 1944. They dated for six months and were married on December 6, 1944. They had been married for almost 50 years when our father passed away in in 1995.
Our mother gave birth to four children; Sharon Idema (husband Gary), Bertus Pritchard, Marvin Pritchard and Christopher Pritchard (wife Layna). Sharon and Gary have two sons, Matthew (wife Heather) and Ryan (wife Monica) Idema. Bert has two children, Laura and Bryan (wife Samantha) Pritchard. Christopher has one daughter, Natalie Pritchard. Jean has 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, William Forrence (wife Marjorie) in Peru, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews.
There are no words to describe what a wonderful, caring, gentle mother she was. She had to be one of the most selfless people ever known. Her children were her entire world and she would go to any lengths to be there for them. Our grandmother once told us that she used to wait on everyone in their home when she was growing up. She was a true care giver…no wonder she was such a wonderful mother.
Funeral services will be private and held at White & Venuto Funeral Home. Reverend Dave Mason will officiate. Entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Mausoleum.
